Our approach

We prioritise communication goals that are important for the individual's participation in their everyday activities. 

This may include:

• Helping a person communicate their needs, wants, and feelings. We may try signs, pictures, or communication devices if speech is difficult to achieve this. 
• Learning to use more words and sentences so that a person can communicate with their family, peers, and other workers. 
• Learning to use longer sentences required for different subjects at school, as well as reading and writing. 
• Helping a person understand instructions at work, and express themselves so that their needs are met (self-advocate). 

Our commitment is to provide individualised and empowering solutions that honour diversity and foster meaningful progress.

We value each individual's unique interests, their unique ways of learning,  and their unique ways of self-expression. We reject the idea that there everyone should be working towards the one "normal". 

We believe that listening to the individual and their support network is paramount. 

The individual and their support network should gain the skills and confidence to support their communication needs across their everyday life. 

We believe in the value of working together with other therapists, schools, and other support staff. Progress rarely happens in a vacuum, and requires ongoing collaboration / engagement with the people around the individual.
